John (Jack) Dovidio, PhD

John (Jack) Dovidio, PhD (pronouns: he/him) is the Carl Iver Hovland Professor of Psychology and Public Health at Yale University, where he also served as the Dean of Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Arts and Science. A primary focus of Jack’s research has been on discovering mechanisms related to intergroup bias and developing strategies to improve intergroup relations based on this knowledge.  His work focuses on factors that support or undermine organizations’ and groups’ ability to achieve their inclusion, diversity and equity goals.

He has deep expertise on both conscious (explicit) and unconscious (implicit) influences on how people think about, feel about, and behave toward others based on group categories such as race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, etc. He continues to conduct research on contemporary subtle forms of prejudice, and on techniques for reducing conscious and unconscious biases. He has consulted with a wide array of government, education, health care, commercial and non-profit organizations and groups. He is committed to translating scientific knowledge into effective strategies for promoting equity,  diversity and inclusion.
